According to ancient Hindu texts, Brahma Sarovar is the exact place where Lord Brahma conceived the Earth and the universe. The significance of this holy tank is mentioned extensively in ancient scriptures, including the Mahabharata and various Puranas.

During the epic battle of Mahabharata, it is said that Duryodhana hid under the waters of this very sarovar to escape the wrath of Bhima towards the end of the war. Even ancient foreign travelers, including the famous Persian scholar Al-Biruni in the 11th century, mentioned the grandeur of this holy tank in their historical memoirs, proving its global recognition centuries ago.

Brahma Sarovar is visually stunning. The water body is massive—over 3,600 feet long and 1,500 feet broad—surrounded by beautifully constructed red-stone ghats. Here is what you must experience:

• Maha Aarti: Witness the mesmerizing evening Aarti at sunset. The reflection of golden lamps in the water is a sight to behold.
• Katyayani Peeth: Visit the temple dedicated to Goddess Katyayani situated right in the center of the Sarovar, accessible via a beautiful concrete bridge.
• Gita Mahotsav: If you visit during the winter months, the entire area transforms into a vibrant cultural hub during the International Gita Mahotsav, featuring crafts, food, and Deep Daan (floating lamps).

Brahma Sarovar is centrally located in Thanesar, the historical part of Kurukshetra city. It is easily accessible by local auto-rickshaws from anywhere in the city.

• General Timings: Open 24 Hours. However, the best time to visit is between 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM for a peaceful sunrise, or 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for the sunset and Aarti.
